How to measure myocardial infarct size by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging
نویسنده
چکیده
In survivors of acute myocardial infarction (MI), the initial size of infarction is associated with long-term prognosis. This article addresses the role of contrast-enhanced cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging in determining the presence and extent of MI. Contrast-enhanced CMR is widely accepted as the reference method for imaging infarct size. The principles involved in contrast-enhanced CMR imaging of MI will be considered, including pathophysiology, gadolinium contrast kinetics, and imaging methods. The different approaches to measuring infarct size with CMR will also be discussed. L Heart Metab. 2016;70:14-18

Relationship between Late Gadolinium Enhancement Extent in Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Severity of Coronary Artery Disease in Old Myocardial Infarction
Purpose: To assess the relationship between the severity of coronary arteries involvement and the extent and pattern of myocardial scars in Cardiac Magnetic Resonance of patients with history of remote myocardial infarction. Materials and Methods: The Cardiac Magnetic Resonance images of sixty patients with history of remote ST segment or non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction were ...
متن کاملEvaluation of a new semi-automatic strategy for quantitative measurement of infarct size in patients with acute and chronic myocardial infarction using cardiac magnetic resonance imaging
Background Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) with delayed gadolinium enhancement (DE) enables accurate infarct size measurement, however, the evaluation of infarct size using a threshold method is time consuming and relies on accurate placement of normal regions of interest and manual delineation of the infarct size. The purpose of the study was to analyze the accuracy and expenditure of...
متن کاملImproved reproducibility of LV volumetry and infarct size measurement using a standardized evaluation protocol for cardiac magnetic resonance imaging
Purpose LV volumetry and infarct size measurement using cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the reference standard to non-invasively measure and to quantify cardiac volumes, function and infarct size. We have observed a high variability of cardiac MRI measurements, if inexperienced observers evaluated the MRI data. The purpose of the study was to analyze the reproducibility of cardiac M...
متن کاملAssessment of Myocardial Infarction by Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Long-Term Mortality
BACKGROUND Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging provides detailed anatomical information on infarction. However, few studies have investigated the association of these data with mortality after acute myocardial infarction. OBJECTIVE To study the association between data regarding infarct size and anatomy, as obtained from cardiac magnetic resonance imaging after acute myocardial infarction, and...
متن کاملLate gadolinium-enhanced cardiovascular magnetic resonance evaluation of infarct size and microvascular obstruction in optimally treated patients after acute myocardial infarction.
PURPOSE Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) is considered the standard imaging modality in clinical trials to monitor patients after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). However, limited data is available with respect to infarct size, presence, and extent of microvascular injury (MVO), and changes over time, in relation to cardiac function in these optimally treated patients. In this study, w...
